Despite studies showing positive results in other cases, the outcome in Pascal's case could never be guaranteed.
Pascal had further imaging while on vacation in Europe which showed healing of the ACL. The scans were sent to Dr Tom Cross, the developer of the protocol, who said this:
"Dear Sam, Pascal has achieved high-volume full thickness ACL healing with excellent alignment/trajectory. Please congratulate him and congratulations to you equally.
I imagine he will be examined with no laxity (Lachman and pivot shift 0).
Please tell him he still has another nine months of rehabilitation ahead of him too remodel and strengthen the healing ACL."
The selection for the cross bracing protocol is based on several factors, including the exact type of ACL injury, as well as client goals, lifestyle, co-morbidities and the logistical capacity to carry out the protocol.
However, for appropriate patients the cross bracing protocol can be an effective way of healing and managing an ACL injury without the need for surgery.
