It's a common misconception is that stretching is important for decreasing the likelihood of injury. In the clinic we often have people come to us believing that the reason they injured or are suffering pain is because they don't stretch enough. However the research doesn't support this. Across-the-board just stretching more in general doesn't seem to decrease our likelihood of being injured. Strength training has a far more beneficial effect on injury risk. However, depending on the sport that you are playing and your individual mobility restrictions, there may be some areas of your body in which improvements in flexibility may decrease likelihood of decreasing the stress on other parts and therefore decreasing injury. So if you're unsure what you should be stretching, have your physiotherapist go through a full assessment and design a tailored program
