A women deadlifting in Tokyo

One of the many wonderful things about resistance training. Is that there so many different options in terms of available exercises. Unless you're competing in strength sports such as powerlifting, Olympic lifting, strong man or CrossFit, and you're just doing resistance training to improve your general health, body composition or performance in non-strength sports, then there are no exercises that should be considered mandatory.

Exercise selection will depend on a number of different factors, including our individual anatomy, past medical history, access to equipment as well as skill and coordination levels.

We often see people persist with exercises that they may not necessarily enjoy or cause some discomfort and by doing this we can sometimes cause unnecessary pain and injury, hamper our progress and also decrease the enjoyment of resistance training which in the long-term will also decrease our adherence.

There are so many ways modify an exercise or choose slightly different options that achieve the same stimulus and adaptation. So if you're struggling through an exercise program that don't that you don't feel is fit for you, then we would love to hear about it and love to try to help you out.
